What Type of Boudoir Shoot is Right for Me?

There are as many ways to shoot boudoir as there are ways to love someone. Many boudoir photographers shoot in airy lofts with lots of natural lights and soft sheets. Others do staged photo shoots with professional lighting. At ALT we say… why choose?

”Traditional” boudoir tends to be very soft and alluring, hinting at sexuality without giving too much away. It’s the standard for a reason: it’s sexy, it’s fun, and it’s often not too intimidating for customers who aren’t used to being models. It typically does have much setup or many lights. This is the most common kind of boudoir you’ll find and, yes, ALT offers it too! This style can be shot anywhere: studio, hotel, home, even outside in nature!

Studio boudoir has a few varieties, depending on the photographer. Some use flashbulb lighting like you’d see at a high-end fashion photoshoot and others use static lights. ALT uses the latter, crafting specific light effects depending on the shot.

Studio boudoir can emulate the light airiness of traditional boudoir, but tends to lean more into color and shadows (which is why we like it here). Studio boudoir can feel a bit more intimidating, but the unique results are worth it. We’re specialists in it and work hard to make your visit comfortable and fun even though it’s a less familiar environment. It’s a way to feel like a supermodel for a day!

But here’s the thing: our customers love to mix and match. ALT can bring our lighting kit anywhere we shoot. We can start off with a set showing how gentle and beautiful you are, then transition into a set showing that you’re also a badass who can strike fear into the hearts of men.

These two pictures were taken as part of the same photo shoot, with the same client, in the same location. She wanted to showcase her full nature: a little sweet, a little naughty. That’s what ALT is about!

Boudoir is an experience. It’s capturing a moment in your life, and it should reflect you. The average person doesn’t get a new boudoir shoot every month, just like they don’t usually get a full tattoo sleeve every month. Your boudoir shoot should showcase your truest self and bring out the beauty that already exists. Don’t settle for a fake, polished-up version of you. Be YOU.
